There are times when you cannot explain that you need something until you actually obtain it. This book excels at bringing a female perspective to a time period that has been saturated by men. It allows us to understand the often overlooked contributions of the wives of these “founding fathers”. With the Broadway play making Hamilton a household name, Eliza’s story now has a springboard. I applaud Stephanie and Laura for collaborating yet again to bring us the story of an under appreciated American hero. It was thoroughly researched and well laid out. I was humbled by the steps Eliza took for children, the poor, the enslaved and most of all, America.

I was spellbound. There was not a single moment where I was not intricately entwined in the tale. I’ve heard some of the names, even learned some of the old tales, but this surpassed my expectations. As in her first novel, Miller effortlessly entrances the reader with her ability to make an old tale new again. Circe is not as widely known as some of the others but she will be made even more so with this book.
